About the Paintings

European-Influenced Oils

Malcolm is a student of the European schools of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and paints as  the subject and mood dictate. Sometimes Impressionist, sometimes Post-Impressionist, sometimes Expressionist, in his rich landscapes, florals, genre scenes and cityscapes, you may find the influence of a Munch or a Kirchner as well as a Sisley, Matisse, Bonnard or Pissaro.

Some of his paintings are narrative and hint at a story, to be discovered or created by the viewer. And many include his favorite people, the kind that bark and wag their tails, as the blue fellow here on the left.
